Department of Fire and Safety Engineering

About the department:

This specialization is considered one of the new specialties in the region, and it is one of the engineering branches that specializes in the protection of facilities and the preservation of lives from all dangers, especially “caused by fires.” Exits, lighting and others to ensure the safety of lives and the preservation of property through the application of scientific and engineering principles by studying all phenomena, the most important of which are how the fire broke out, the causes leading to it, the behavior of people, property, and the surrounding environment in the facility. Rather, the role of engineers extends beyond accidents to carry out the necessary research in these areas.

Al-Balqa’ Applied University awards a bachelor’s degree in Fire and Safety Engineering after the student has passed the approved study plan, which covers many topics in this engineering field: passive and active protection systems, fire dynamics, fire and smoke modeling, analysis and evaluation Hazards, investigation of industrial fires and explosions, public safety measures in establishments, in addition to safety and national building codes. The student must complete 160 hours of study in the approved study plan, and the hourly fees are (60 Jordanian dinars) for the Jordanian student and (150 US dollars) for the non-Jordanian student.

Areas of work in specialization

The public sector such as ministries: such as the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Municipalities, public institutions and others, in addition to security agencies such as public security and the armed forces. And the private sector, such as specialized engineering offices and contracting companies, insurance companies, public safety institutions, and in establishments with different occupancy such as hotels and factories Electric power stations, gas station companies, and others, and this applies to them in the Arab world.

Duties:

Providing an academic environment capable of supplying the labor market with qualified graduates, both scientifically and practically, through:

  • Providing laboratories with high readiness in the field of fire, resistance to materials, fluids, electrical circuits and engineering workshops, in addition to the specialized engineering drawing rooms in the academy with its theoretical aspects and computer applications.
  • Carrying out activities, events and initiatives that will refine the student's personality and integrate him with the local community.
  • Holding workshops, courses, seminars and meetings related to the specialization that qualifies the student to the requirements of the labor market.
