Fire and Safety Engineering

Overview


This specialty is considered one ofthe newest specialties in the region. It is one of the engineering branches that specialize in protecting institutions and preserving lives from all dangers, especially the one resulting from fires. It is concerned with designing facilities, especially in terms of requirements of prevention and self-protection. These are represented in providing fire extinguishing systems, fire alarm systems, fire detectors, exits and lighting, etc. All of these to ensure the safety of lives and the preservation of properties through the application of scientific and engineering principles to study all phenomena. Mainly, how the outbreak of fire happens, the causes that led to it, the behavior of people, property and the surrounding environment in the facilityand the role of engineers extends beyond accidents to conduct the necessary research in these fields.


Bachelor's Degree in Fire and Safety Engineering:


Al-Balqa Applied University / Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II Academy of Civil Protection grants a bachelor's degree in fire and safety engineering after the student has passed the approved study plane that covers many topics in this engineering field: passive and active protection systems, fire dynamics, fire and smoke modeling, Analysis and assessment of hazards, investigation of fire and industrial explosions, public safety measures in the facilities, in addition to safety and national building codes. The student must complete (160) credit hours in the approved study plane. The hour fees are (60 Jordanian dinars) for the Jordanian student, and (150 US dollars) for the non-Jordanian student.


Work Fields


Graduates can work in the public sector such as ministries (the Ministry of public works and Housing, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Local Administration, public institutions and others. In addition, they can work in the military sector such as the civil defense and the armed forces. Also, they can work in the private sector such as specialized engineering offices and contracting companies, insurance companies, public safety institutions, and in different types of institutions such as hotels, factories, electric power plants, gas station companies, and others.

Activities and achievements


  • Equipping laboratories with high readiness in the field of fire, resistance to materials, fluids, electrical circuits and engineering workshops.
  • Expanding in activities, events, and initiatives that would improve the students' personality and integrate them with the local community.
  • Holding workshops, courses, seminars and meetings related to the specialty that qualifies the student for the requirements of the labor market.
  • Specialized engineering drawing rooms have been activated in the Academy with their theoretical aspects and computer applications.
